Understanding Character Variants in IDNs
To resolve an IDN requires the DNS to interpret
characters in local languages and connect them to the relevant domains.
But there are many more languages than scripts and the overlap between
the two requires a special solution to address these character variants.
To recognize the complexity of creating internationalized
domain names, it is important to understand how different languages
use characters and script to form sentences and the role of Unicode,
a universal character set used in computing.
Because different languages use the same script,
an overlap exists. A character-by-character substitution without language
context creates variants that result in confusion and misunderstanding.
