The
Project Titan initiative includes expanding the critical infrastructure
both in scale and location globally and investment in engineering, monitoring
and new proprietary security systems and processes to manage Internet
traffic.
By
2010 VeriSign will increase its daily DNS query capacity tenfold from
400 billion queries a day currently to 4 trillion queries a day. It
will also scale its proprietary systems to increase its bandwidth capacity
ten times from more than 20 gigabits per second (Gbps) to greater than
200 Gbps. By distributing its infrastructure, the .com and .net systems
will have greater redundancy and reduced latency, which will improve
the experience for users by reducing bottlenecks and increasing speed.
The state-of-the-art engineering enhancements to the system will create
increased capability to track and correlate security and network related
events on a global basis.
Project Titan Initiatives
Significant expansion of existing infrastructure |
VeriSign is building out its proprietary infrastructure to manage
the demands on the .com and .net systems. By 2010, VeriSign will
increase by more than ten fold the number of resolution sites and more
than double the number of registration servers deployed. |
Deployment of Infrastructure |
VeriSign will accelerate its deployment of Regional Internet Resolution
Sites to more than 100 constellation sites globally by 2010. These sites
extend the .com and .net infrastructures across the world, which diversifies
the systems, increases stability and improves resolution speed for end
users. These widely distributed sites also direct region-specific DNS
traffic to certain resolution sites to enable more effective quarantining
of malicious traffic. |
Deployment of new network operations centers |
VeriSign is deploying new network operations centers in Delaware and
Europe to manage Internet traffic. These sites will expand VeriSign’s
data center capacity and diversify the locations to improve Internet
traffic management and counter region-specific cyber attacks and threats. |
Deployment of New Security Upgrades |
VeriSign is deploying new proprietary security upgrades and operational
protocols to better manage traffic flow and to increase protection against
application-type attacks. VeriSign will also implement next generation
monitoring and response services to isolate malicious Internet traffic
from cyber attacks. The monitoring systems will rapidly diagnose various
Internet traffic anomalies, which often appear in advance of a cyber
attack, enabling pre-emptive action to minimize impact. VeriSign will
also implement new tools to identify various attack vectors against
the .com and .net infrastructure to enable early elimination of threats
as well as new DNS security protocols to better protect Internet traffic. |
