EPC and Data Security
As companies
begin to collect critical supply chain data and share it with partners
over a network-based infrastructure, they need to apply an intelligent
security framework to ensure data security and integrity.
Proven Security Framework
Proven
security technologies are available today to ensure data security and
integrity. The security framework should address three areas of vulnerability:
- Authentication is the process of verifying someone is who they say
they are. Technologies include PKI and cryptographic keys.
- Data protection prevents data interception or modification. Encryption
during transmission and policies for creating, modifying, and deleting
data are typically used.
- Access controls ensure that tasks are performed by authenticated individuals
who are authorized to do them. Technologies include user ID and password,
digital certificates, shared secrets, secure tokens.
