VeriSign recommends that you back up your ECA certificates and keys in case you need to move them to a new computer or restore them if they become corrupted. You can export them to a floppy disk or CD by following the instructions below. You should store the floppy disk or CD in a secure place such as a safe or lockable cabinet.
- Select the Tools drop-down menu and click on Internet Options.
- Select the Content tab and click on the Certificates button.
- Under the Personal tab, select the digital certificate that you would like to export.
- Click Export. The Certificate Manager Export Wizard will open.
- Click Next to initiate the export process.
- Select Yes, Export the private key, and then select Next.
- Ensure the following checkboxes are selected:
a. Include all certificates in the certification path if possible.
b. Enable strong protection. - Click Next.
- Enter and confirm a password to encrypt the private key you are exporting. Click Next.
- Under Export File Name, click Browse and choose where you would like to save your digital certificate (most likely a floppy drive or portable storage device).
- Enter a filename for the certificate.
- Click OK, then Next.
- Click Finish and the export process is complete.
